A group of hackers has downloaded over 60GB of data related to the May 2022 elections in a massive data breach of the Commission on Elections (Comelec) servers on January 8, 2022, as reported by Manila Bulletin.

According to the report, among the files downloaded by the hackers were sensitive information, including:

Voters information

• list of overseas absentee voters

Comelec related information

• usernames and PINs of vote-counting machines (VCM)
• network diagrams
• IP addresses
• list of all privileged users
• domain admin credentials
• list of all passwords and domain policies
• access to the ballot handling dashboard
• QR code captures of the bureau of canvassers with login and password
• all user accounts of Comelec personnel
• all configuration list of the database
• location of all voting precincts with details of board of canvassers

Manila Bulletin said a source contacted its technology news arm on January 8 about an "ongoing hack of Comelec servers."

The tech news arm of Manila Bulletin verified this information and discovered that the servers were indeed being hacked. Further investigation revealed the extent of the hacking, which included the hackers' theft of Comelec data.

The media outlet also spoke with Comelec spokesperson James Jimenez, who told Manila Bulletin that he would discuss the matter with the Comelec Steering Committee.
