PLDT, DITO sign interconnection deal for fixed, wireless internet subscribers

PLDT and the third major telco DITO have announced that they have signed a deal to construct a transmission facility that will act as an interconnection point for their subscribers.

Under the agreement, the interconnection facility that will serve as the primary physical interface for the two telcos will be developed and operated by the telco giant PLDT.

According to the PLDT press release, the interconnection hub will give DITO the intercarrier requirements, which will benefit both telcos' fixed and wireless subscribers by allowing them to communicate and connect to all the required services.

It is expected that the planned transmission facility will be completed in time for DITO's commercial operations by the end of March.

PLDT Chief Revenue Officer and Smart Communications President and CEO Al Panlilio said, "It is important for us that we establish this interconnection capability between PLDT-Smart and the customers of DITO as mandated by the NTC, and principally to make sure that our customers are able to communicate."

DITO Telecommunity Chairman and CEO Dennis Uy said, "Being chosen as the country's third player, DITO knew from day 1 that in order for us to deliver our commitment to the Filipino, we needed to work hand-in-hand with the pioneers of the telco industry like PLDT. I'd like to express my gratitude to everyone in making the interconnection agreement between DITO and PLDT possible."

On February 22, 2021, the National Telecommunications Commission said DITO Telecommunity passed its first technical audit after surpassing its internet speed and population coverage commitment for its first year.

According to the independent audit result, DITO telco recorded a minimum broadband speed of 507.5 Mbps for its 5G service and 85.9 Mbps minimum speed for its 4G service.
