La historia se sitúa en diciembre de 2199, cuando las calles están llenas de gente para celebrar el final y el inicio de año. En medio de las celebraciones, se corre la voz de que Ragna la Bloodedge, un rebelde de la clase SS, ha aparecido en la Ciudad jerárquica número 13 de Kagutsuchi. El objetivo aparente de Ragna o el "Grim Reaper" es la destrucción del sistema que controla el mundo. Para cobrar la recompensa, un conjunto variopinto de combatientes se reúnen en la ciudad de Kagutsuchi. BlazBlue es un juego de lucha en dos dimensiones desarrollado por Arc System Works, empresa creadora de sagas de lucha como Guilty Gear y que también se encarga de las adaptaciones de Nura el señor de los Yokais o Persona. Su primera entrega, Calamity Trigger, se puso en venta en España el 19 de marzo de 2010, dos años después de su estreno en recreativa en Japón.
